What to Check Before Buying
- Laptop size limit. Most passenger seat desks list a maximum laptop size of 15.6″ or 17″. Measure your laptop's footprint, not just the screen — gaming laptops with deep chassis can overhang smaller trays.
- Angle adjustment. A tilting surface (roughly 0–30°) matters more in a car than at home because the seat position is fixed. Look for a ledge or stopper that keeps the laptop from sliding on a tilted surface.
- Weight rating. Typical laptops weigh 1.2–2.5 kg (2.6–5.5 lb). Any desk rated 10 kg+ is fine for a laptop plus a notebook and a drink; be more careful with desks that don't publish a rating.
- Buckle compatibility. Seat-base stations should either buckle in or have a non-slip base wide enough to be stable on a contoured seat cushion.
- Storage. Seat-base workstations often include file slots and compartments — useful for field paperwork, irrelevant if you only carry a laptop.

Can I keep the desk installed while driving?
Keep the seat it's on unoccupied, stow or secure the laptop, and make sure nothing can slide into the driver's footwell. Loose objects become projectiles in hard braking.
